WWE Friday Night SmackDown # 1088 Results & Report from Orlando, Florida, USA from June 26th, 2020

WWE Friday Night SmackDown # 1084
Venue: WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida, USA
US first broadcast: May 29, 2020
Spectators: 0

An exaggerated cheering audience, consisting of NXT talents, welcomes us to today’s edition before Corey Graves and Michael Cole give an outlook on them.
We then see Jeff Hardy backstage before reviewing Elias’ accident, Jeff’s arrest, and impact on the Intercontinental Championship tournament last week.
Jeff Hardy then opens the show and goes into the ring. He welcomes the talents from NXT. He discusses the past week and feels sorry for Elias, who was injured. He now wants to present his view of things. He got out of the car in the parking lot and was hit by something. The next thing he knew was that he was questioned by the police and his clothes stank of alcohol. He questioned everything he tried to achieve; how often he should look his wife and children in the eye and beg for forgiveness. But he was in the WWE for a reason and he knew that he hadn’t slipped again last week. Therefore, he passed every test that could indicate alcohol. And he learned that someone with a red beard was getting out of his car after it hit Elias. He speaks to Sheamus directly and says that he will never let him get away with it.
This is the sign for Sheamus to perform. He talks about people like Jeff always blaming others for their actions and pointing their fingers at them. He advises Jeff to be a man once in a lifetime and to stand by what he did. But he won’t do that because Jeff is not a man, just a junkie. And he shouldn’t worry about his wife and daughters – they’re used to it. Hardy has heard enough and wants to attack Sheamus, but has to take a brogue kick and then a hard beatdown.

We see Mandy Rose and Otis arriving at the Performance Center, who pass Baron Corbins’ throne. Otis can’t help but try on the crown and take it with him. Corbin is not thrilled with the loss. A producer tells Corbin that Otis has the crown. How fitting that the first match of the evening Otis vs. “King” Corbin means!

1st match | WWE Friday Night SmackDown
Otis won against “King” Corbin via DQ after Corbin attacked Otis with a chair.
Match time: 4:03

– Corbin got his crown and grabbed the chair with which he attacked Otis.
– After the DQ, Corbin wanted to continue hitting Otis, who could dodge and show the Caterpillar.

We see Miz and Morrison in a surveillance car, which Miz was able to acquire through Connections, equipped with directional microphone and binoculars. They watch Strowman pull up and park in a car. Miz complains that everyone is wondering why he and Morrison have challenged Strawman and are happy about the attrition they would take with Backlash. And that’s annoying. Strowman doesn’t have a worry in the world. But that would be annoying now. And even if that now seems childish, it is actually strategic.
We see Strowman drinking something. When it is poured into the bottle, it splashes out of it, which Miz and Morrison celebrate extremely. Strawman, meanwhile, has a little nervous breakdown.

Shorty G is ready for the interview, but is immediately interrupted by Mojo Rawley. He apologizes to the “Little Man”, but there are more important things, for example his buddy Rob Gronkowski, who was stolen from the 24/7 Championship. Cesaro and Nakamura join and the three-beat Shorty G down before The New Day make the save.

2nd match | WWE Friday Night SmackDown
Lacey Evans won against Sonya Deville via pin on the Woman’s Right.
Match time: 12:24

– Deville attacked Evans as they moved in and threw them against one of the ring stairs.
– The storyline continued that in Deville’s opinion blondes are stupid but have more options because of their hair color.
– The referee injured his knee when he stood in the way of the two fighting women and was replaced by another referee.
– Mandy Rose appeared on the screen and spoke to Deville, who was distracted. This led to Rose’s great pleasure in finishing.

The situation in the interview earlier led to a 6 man tag team match between Shorty G & The New Day vs. Cesaro, Nakamura & Mojo Rawley run for today.

Braun Strowman is ready for an interview. It’s about Miz and Morrison’s promise to make his life hell. Miz presses a button on a remote control and the slime that is already known and often used in the WWE rains down on Kayla. Miz and Morrison are arguing with each other, the latter probably misplaced the bucket. Since Braun also got something, the two see it as a small success.

Renee Young stands in the ring with the Intercontinental Championship belt and welcomes Daniel Bryan in the ring. This really heats up the NXT talents with its Yes! Movement. AJ Styles is also asked to enter the ring. When Young Bryan wants to ask a question, Styles intervenes and says that she should start with him. Because if Hardy hadn’t intervened in Bryan’s match, AJ Styles vs. Sheamus are called. In addition, he would be the smarter – because he insisted on his participation in the final, which he had already fought for, while Bryan was stupid and put it at risk again. Bryan calls AJ Styles a coward though, because if AJ wins, he will only sporadically defend the title against people who can’t beat him anyway and who still consider themselves the best champion of all time. However, if he, Daniel Bryan, wins, he will defend the title every week. Not because he’s classy, but because he wants to push himself. Styles doesn’t want to know about it. He doesn’t believe in simply distributing opportunities – you have to earn them. But while you’re on occasion, AJ Styles will give Drew Gulak the opportunity to kick her ass today and here. He then does not wait long and attacks Styles, hardly that he has entered the ring.

3rd match | WWE Friday Night SmackDown
Drew Gulak won against AJ Styles via pin after a rollerball.
Match time: 5:14

– Gulak could use AJ Styles to mess with Daniel Bryan while preparing for the Styles Clash to surprise and curl up Styles.

Miz and Morrison are now at Strowman’s car, an old, expensive car. How bad it would be if something happened to him … Now Miz shows his golf and Morrison his baseball skills, which is not good for the windshield. This segment ends with laughing heels.

  1. Match
The New Day (Kofi Kingston & Big E) & Shorty G won genes Shinsuke Nakamura, Cesaro and Mojo Rawley via pin from Kofi Kingston to Mojo Rawley after a double team action by Kofi Kingston and Big E.
    Match time: 10:33

Strowman now sees what happened to his car. Unfortunately, security has seen everything and points him to the white van, which is a few meters away. Braun can’t be said twice and sets off. Miz and Morrison, “safe” in their van, make fun of him. Braun then simply tilts the van to the side and is happy with the result.

5th match | WWE Friday Night SmackDown
WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship
Sasha Banks & Bayley won against Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross (c) via pin from Sasha Banks to Nikki Cross after a Crucifix pin. -> change of title!
Match time: 12:19

The edition of Smackdown ends with stunned ex-champions and celebrating new tag team champions.

Jeff Hardy has renewed his WWE contract!

Jeff Hardy has renewed his WWE contract!

– There won’t be a reunion of the Hardys in the next few years, because Jeff Hardy has extended his WWE contract! What the reigning WWE Intercontinental Champion Jeff Hardy already hinted at in an interview with BT Sport recently has now been confirmed by Dave Meltzer. Jeff and his brother Matt had both signed 3-year contracts in 2017, but Jeff’s contract was unilaterally extended by WWE because the 43-year-old had been sidelined for a long time due to injuries and personal problems. While Matt left the market leader after the contract ended and signed with All Elite Wrestling, Jeff was bound even longer. But now he has signed a new contract that ties him to WWE for either 3 years or even 5 years.

– Meanwhile, WrestleVotes reports that another WWE Superstar recently decided not to renew his contract but to leave the company after his current contract ends. No information was given about who it was.

– For the past two weeks, Friday Night SmackDown has been broadcasting videos announcing the arrival of a blonde female wrestler. Meanwhile it is becoming apparent that this is Carmella, who will return to the shows with a new gimmick. The 32-year-old has not been part of the WWE shows since May, although it is unknown why she was absent. She played her last match on May 10 at the “Money in the Bank” PPV.

– Ivar is undergoing neck surgery this Monday in Birmingham, Alabama. It is still unclear which injury the Viking Raider sustained, but he is threatened with a break of at least a year. Todd Smith, his real name, had previously struggled with neck problems, which were exacerbated by the unsuccessful dive last week. The injury could also be very bad news for his tag team partner Erik. Injury to a tag team wrestler at WWE very often means that his partner also wastes the shows. Erik’s defeat to Lashley yesterday in just 2 minutes should not be a good sign for the 36-year-old.

– Dominik Mysterio made it to the top of WWE within a few weeks. As the PWInsider reports, the WWE officials already count the 23-year-old among the top 3 or top 4 baby faces in the RAW roster. Rey Mysterio’s son has more than just convinced the WWE officials since his first match at the “WWE SummerSlam” and there is currently no end in sight to his push.
