WWE Friday Night SmackDown # 1088 Results & Report from Orlando, Florida, USA from June 26th, 2020

WWE Friday Night SmackDown # 1087
Venue: WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida, USA
US first broadcast: June 19, 2020

After looking back at the WWE Intercontinental Championship match between Daniel Bryan and AJ Styles, Michael Cole and Corey Graves welcome us to a new edition of “Friday Night SmackDown”. They go through today’s highlights before we join Renee Young in the ring. There she introduces the new WWE Intercontinental Champion AJ Styles, who then comes to the ring to be officially awarded the corresponding title belt. Several superstars have gathered around the ring, including Daniel Bryan. Styles brags about his successes in the ring before the award ceremony is due to take place. Renee Young is actually responsible for this, but according to AJ Styles there is only one person who can hand him the title: Daniel Bryan.

Bryan hesitantly enters the ring and Styles explains that Bryan only has to strap the title belt around Styles’ waist and congratulate him. At first, he is not at all enthusiastic about this idea, but can then find his way. Styles doesn’t like the fact that only he could hear Bryan’s congratulations, but the audience in the arena and in front of the TV screens didn’t. Bryan then explains that Styles was the better man last week. He sees styles as a strong champion who could even make himself almost “immortal”. All he has to do is step into the ring every week and give the exceptional talents currently on the edge of the ring chances for the WWE Intercontinental Championship. Matches against Shorty G, Gran Metalik, Big E – these would ensure that Styles’ title run becomes something very special. But AJ has other ideas about his era as a champion. He won’t just give every superstar a chance because you have to earn it. And Daniel Bryan? It’s at the bottom of the list of challengers. Bryan can live with that. But if Styles wants to follow his words with deeds, he should give Drew Gulak a chance to win the title, after all, Gulak defeated Styles a few weeks ago. But Styles declines, saying that he will only compete against officially appointed # 1 challengers.

“Broooooooo” – the music of Matt Riddle sounds and the “Original Bro” hereby celebrates its announced debut. Riddle celebrates with some wrestlers on the edge of the ring before entering the ring and shooting his slippers in the air. Riddle introduces himself, but Styles says he knows who Matt Riddle is. Nevertheless, he only sees a guy without shoes here, begging for an opportunity he didn’t deserve. Riddle makes it clear that he is not begging for any chance. Styles always calls himself “face that runs the place”, you Riddle is now the “Bro that’s going to run the show”. This saying apparently gets under Styles’s skin so that he attacks Riddle after a short star-down. However, Riddle can fend off this attack and in turn push Styles out of the ring. Outside the ring, Styles is furious, which is why he calls for a referee.

After the commercial break, the ring announcer wants to announce the next match as a WWE Intercontinental Championship match, but AJ Styles immediately makes it clear that he will only compete against Matt Riddle in a non-title match.

The faces celebrate Riddle’s victory in the ring.

We see Jeff Hardy being prepared for his exclusive interview with Renee Young. He seems to be in a kind of trance, so that he only looks forward for several seconds without being aware of the people around him. The feud between him and Sheamus is summarized in a video.

In the interview, Jeff explains that he’s feeling a little better now, but the past few weeks have been extremely stressful. Renee confirms that the rivalry with Sheamus was difficult to see because Sheamus made the whole situation so personal. Jeff could have taken revenge on “WWE Backlash,” but he couldn’t defeat Sheamus. Hardy makes it clear that this was certainly not his first loss. There are times when he gets up again after defeats and continues with his life. Then there are also defeats that trigger self-doubt in him. He admits he’s a junkie. He’s always been an adrenaline junkie and he’s also an alcoholic. But Sheamus is just a bully and another obstacle that he will overcome.

Shorty G is asked backstage by Kayla Braxton if he is worried about his match against Mojo Rawley today, after all, it is significantly larger and heavier than him. Shorty G makes it clear that he has always had to compete against taller people. During the interview, Mojo Rawley sneaks up from behind and secretly makes fun of Shorty G’s size. Apparently he didn’t notice Rawley’s presence. Shorty G explains that his rivals don’t know he has eyes in the back of his head. With these words, he knocks down Rawley and goes to the ring.

The Miz & John Morrison are in the ring to present a new edition of “MizTV”. But before that, according to The Miz, they would have to address “elephant in the room”. “Otis?” Morrison asks, but The Miz refers to her WWE Universal Championship match on “WWE Backlash”. They should be in this ring as co-champions now, but the rules were unfairly changed just before the match. In addition, they always had to keep Otis in mind, as he could have cashed in his suitcase at any time. But today it’s not about Otis, but about his girlfriend Mandy Rose. After Mandy arrives in the ring, they praise Sonya Deville in the sky. Rose is about to disappear backstage, but the hosts apologize for their behavior. You have prepared another surprise for Mandy: Sonya Deville!

Deville makes fun of Rose because the pool scene with Otis is her biggest success. Rose replies that Sonya can harm her physically, but not mentally. Otis was always there for her and stood by her side – which cannot be said of Sonya. Sonya makes it clear that she is no longer angry or angry with Mandy. She doesn’t care what happens to Mandy now. She just wants to finally get the same chances that Mandy gets from her looks. Apart from that, she is miles ahead of Mandy in every aspect. That’s why she will destroy Mandy Rose and tear it to pieces so that she looks just as terrible on the outside as she does on the inside. Then there is a little brawl, which Miz & Morrison watch enthusiastically. At some point Sonya hides behind The Miz and can escape. The Miz captures a slap in the face by Mandy Rose.

For the next match, the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Sasha Banks & WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley go to the commentary desk.

3rd match | WWE Friday Night SmackDown # 1087

Immediately after the match, The New Day are attacked by Cesaro & Shinsuke Nakamura. Big E is processed with the Gotch Style Neutralizer, Kofi Kingston has to put in a Cesaro Swing / Knee Strike combination. Afterwards, Cesaro claps with Bayley & Sasha Banks and explains at the commentary desk that he is fed up with being constantly overlooked. He and Shinsuke beat Big E & Kofi Kingston last week and they don’t even have a match this week. You are fed up with it.

Dana Brooke, Tamina, Alexa Bliss, Naomi and Lacey Evans make claims for a WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship Match. Alexa notices that Nikki Cross is not with her at all.

Sheamus is interviewed by Kayla Braxton. After watching Jeff’s interview today, he realized that things were very serious between them. Limits have been exceeded. Being called a bully by Jeff then triggered a thought process in him. He came to the conclusion that … he is definitely a bully. People like Jeff Hardy deserve to be bullied and bullied. Jeff is pathetic and weak, which is why it was an inner flower picking to give Jeff the brogue kick. However, he regrets not having destroyed Jeff’s larynx. Because that’s how we have to keep listening to his whine. And deep inside, Jeff doesn’t even believe his words himself. If Jeff can’t pull himself up by himself, he’ll kindly do it. That’s why he’s going to toast Jeff next week.

Sasha Banks & Bayley are still at the commentary desk and are looking forward to the toast next week. Suddenly the two are attacked by Nikki Cross. Due to the surprise effect, Cross can assert itself against the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions until Alexa Bliss comes to the ring and her friend calms down. In the ring, Nikki Cross challenges Sasha Banks to a match that Bayley accepts. Once again, Sasha doesn’t seem to be really happy with this decision.

A video package about Titus O’Neil is recorded. The father of the year 2015 is nominated for the “2020 Muhammad Ali Humanitarian Award”.

Bray Wyatt welcomes us back from the Firefly Fun House after a short break. Since his last appearance, he has joined a book club, learned new TikTok dance moves, brought the dead to life, started knitting and penetrated a reptile stronghold. Ramblin ‘Rabbit shows up and explains that Bray actually only cried all the time because he lost to Braun Strowman in “WWE Money in the Bank”. Bray thanks Ramblin ‘for the memory that he has been able to successfully suppress. Yes, he lost to Braun Strowman. But through this defeat he could see that he was completely wrong about the whole thing.

It is interrupted by the “Strowman Express”, which comes to the ring. Braun makes it clear that Bray had his title chance and could not use it. The story of the two is over. Bray answers with a loud laugh. The chapter between them may be over, but when he said earlier that he was bringing the dead to life, it was far from a lie. Your story is just beginning. Now various “Wyatt Family” recordings are shown (in which only Bray Wyatt, Braun Strowman and Erick Rowan can be seen) before we see a 2020 version of the “Wyatt Family” -Bray Wyatt. Bray notices that Braun looks at him as if he has seen a ghost. To take a step forward, you first have to go back to where it all started. He created Braun Strowman, which is why it is his job to destroy him again. Braun knows where to find Bray. He just has to follow the buzzards. The segment and thus the show ends with a “Run!”

Jeff Hardy has renewed his WWE contract!

Jeff Hardy has renewed his WWE contract!

Jeff Hardy has renewed his WWE contract!

– There won’t be a reunion of the Hardys in the next few years, because Jeff Hardy has extended his WWE contract! What the reigning WWE Intercontinental Champion Jeff Hardy already hinted at in an interview with BT Sport recently has now been confirmed by Dave Meltzer. Jeff and his brother Matt had both signed 3-year contracts in 2017, but Jeff’s contract was unilaterally extended by WWE because the 43-year-old had been sidelined for a long time due to injuries and personal problems. While Matt left the market leader after the contract ended and signed with All Elite Wrestling, Jeff was bound even longer. But now he has signed a new contract that ties him to WWE for either 3 years or even 5 years.

– Meanwhile, WrestleVotes reports that another WWE Superstar recently decided not to renew his contract but to leave the company after his current contract ends. No information was given about who it was.

– For the past two weeks, Friday Night SmackDown has been broadcasting videos announcing the arrival of a blonde female wrestler. Meanwhile it is becoming apparent that this is Carmella, who will return to the shows with a new gimmick. The 32-year-old has not been part of the WWE shows since May, although it is unknown why she was absent. She played her last match on May 10 at the “Money in the Bank” PPV.

– Ivar is undergoing neck surgery this Monday in Birmingham, Alabama. It is still unclear which injury the Viking Raider sustained, but he is threatened with a break of at least a year. Todd Smith, his real name, had previously struggled with neck problems, which were exacerbated by the unsuccessful dive last week. The injury could also be very bad news for his tag team partner Erik. Injury to a tag team wrestler at WWE very often means that his partner also wastes the shows. Erik’s defeat to Lashley yesterday in just 2 minutes should not be a good sign for the 36-year-old.

– Dominik Mysterio made it to the top of WWE within a few weeks. As the PWInsider reports, the WWE officials already count the 23-year-old among the top 3 or top 4 baby faces in the RAW roster. Rey Mysterio’s son has more than just convinced the WWE officials since his first match at the “WWE SummerSlam” and there is currently no end in sight to his push.
